Budget hotel chain Travelodge has opened its sixth hotel in York, and has been “actively investing” in the region during the last 16 months.
The 80-room York Monks Cross Travelodge is the first hotel to be located at Monks Cross Shopping Park, representing an investment of £7.5m for the landlord and creating 26 new jobs within the community.
The hotel is being managed by Jules Wan, who joined Travelodge 11 years ago as a receptionist. He said: “I am very proud to have built a fantastic team who are as passionate as me about delivering great customer service. Our new hotel has got off to a flying start and we are set for a very busy festive season.
“Interestingly, locals have been rapidly booking rooms for their visiting family and friends over the festive season, so it looks like we will be York’s spare room provider this Christmas.”
In August 2017, Travelodge opened its largest hotel in the city, York Central Layerthorpe, which represented an investment of over £5m and created 47 new jobs.
