GMI Construction Group has revealed that work on Dakota Hotels’ new Manchester Airport property is well underway, with the base slabs completed and reinforced concrete frame already rising from the ground.
Scheduled to open in 2026, the 154-bedroom Dakota Manchester Airport will provide a “contemporary” seven storey retreat featuring “stylish” interiors, a destination bar, and brasserie-style grill.
Conveniently located for domestic and international travellers off Bailey Lane, the hotel will provide parking for 130 vehicles as well as an airport terminal shuttle service.
The project marks the fifth collaboration between GMI and the hotel chain’s owners, Evans Property Group. This is also the second Dakota hotel to be built in Manchester by the construction group.
Meanwhile, work continues to transform a former office block on Newcastle’s Quayside into a 118-bedroom “luxury” destination.
Once completed, Dakota Manchester Airport is expected to create more than 150 jobs.
Marc Banks, director at Evans Property Group, said: “We are delighted to once again collaborate with GMI, a partner that understands our vision for delivering luxury and elegance in prime locations.
“Dakota Manchester Airport will embody the same unique experience our guests have come to expect, and it will prove a key asset for the airport and travellers alike, bringing our signature design and hospitality to one of the UK’s most important travel hubs.”
Anthony Judge, regional director in the north west at GMI, added: “We are making excellent progress, with the ground floor slabs laid and reinforced concrete frame structure rising rapidly. This boutique hotel will be a standout addition to Manchester Airport, offering travellers style, comfort, and hospitality.
“This project reinforces our strong presence within the north west, where we are currently delivering a Premier Inn in Manchester city centre, and have recently completed innovation space CityLabs 4.0 for Bruntwood SciTech. With a robust pipeline of projects, the future looks exceptionally promising for GMI in this region.”
