In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The Edinburgh Collection has announced that the Haymarket Hub Hotel will reopen in June 2025 under IHG Hotels and Resorts’ Garner Hotels brand, following an extensive £2m refurbishment.

Located directly opposite Edinburgh’s Haymarket Station, the 195-room hotel has been redesigned to align with Garner’s brand identity.

The refurbishment was led by project management firm and QS consultant, Fitzsimons, and interior design studio Spacebrand.

With its relaunch as part of Garner Hotels, the property will donate £1 per guest stay for a limited time to Action Against Hunger, aligning with IHG’s multi-year partnership to combat food insecurity and hunger worldwide.

In addition, in line with IHG’s ‘Journey to Tomorrow’ responsible business plan, the hotel will incorporate Verdant’s VX4 Smart Thermostats by Copeland, AI-driven systems which optimise energy efficiency by adjusting HVAC usage based on occupancy sensors.

Garner Hotels is IHG Hotels and Resorts’ newest midscale brand, launched in August 2023, and debuts in Scotland with this opening.

As part of IHG’s global portfolio, Garner Hotels is expanding rapidly across the UK, Europe, and North America. Guests at the refreshed hotel will also benefit from IHG One Rewards, earning and redeeming points across more than 6,600 hotels worldwide.

Sheetal Kapoor, CEO of Palm Holdings, said: “The transformation of Haymarket Hub Hotel into Garner Hotels by IHG marks an exciting new chapter for this prime Edinburgh property. This investment reflects our commitment to modern design, sustainability, and meeting the demand of all our stakeholders. We are thrilled to work alongside IHG to bring this innovative concept to life in Scotland’s capital.”

Ricky Kapoor, managing director of Palm Holdings, added: “Introducing Garner Hotels to the Edinburgh market through the Haymarket Hub Hotel is a testament to our long-term vision for quality and design. Collaborating with IHG, along with the expertise of Fitzsimons and Spacebrand, has ensured that every aspect of this refurbishment meets our shared values. We eagerly anticipate welcoming guests to experience this dynamic new brand.”

Matt Walton, head of Development, UK and Ireland, IHG Hotels and Resorts, concluded:
“We are delighted to be working with Palm Holdings on this exciting project and to bring our Garner Hotels brand to the vibrant Edinburgh market. The conversion of the Haymarket Hub Hotel is a true reflection of our commitment to thoughtful growth and giving back to the community, all while offering reliable, comfortable stays that guests can always count on.

“We look forward to opening the doors to our first Garner Hotels property in Scotland later this year as we expand our partnership with Palm Holdings into new markets beyond the US, Canada and England.”

This reopening marks a significant milestone for The Edinburgh Collection, which manages a portfolio of properties across the city including Old Waverley, Holyrood Aparthotel, and Princes Street Suites.
