Wheyrigg Hall Hotel in Cumbria has been sold to new owners for the first time in 35 years for an undisclosed price. The 18-bedroom hotel with caravan pitches is located close to Wigton, Silloth and the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The hotel’s former owner, Helen Benson, purchased the hotel in 1988 with her late husband Joseph, and together they worked to build and develop the business into a popular hotel with bar and restaurant, which now hosts many functions and celebrations.
The new owners, Tracey and Stuart Davidson, are “very familiar” with the local area, and said they are looking forward to building on the success of the business.
Tracey Davidson said: “We are thrilled to have acquired Wheyrigg Hall Hotel. It is a business that was well-known to us, and when we spotted that it was for sale, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. We are very much looking forward to Wheyrigg Hall becoming our new home, welcoming guests, and maintaining strong links with the local community.
“I would like to thank our accountant and solicitor, Chris Lamont from Lamont Pridmore and Duncan Cater from Bell Park Kerridge, as well as Graham Wilkinson at Christie and Co, for their invaluable support in facilitating a smooth purchase in time for Easter.”
Former owner Helen Benson added: “After 35 years, it will of course be sad to leave Wheyrigg Hall, however I am now looking forward to my retirement and being able to commit much more time to the family and the grandchildren. We wish Stuart and Tracey every success with the business for the future.
“We would like to thank Graham Wilkinson at Christie and Co for handling the sale for us and helping us through the process. We would also like to thank Alex Keegan and Abbie Crystal from Bendles Solicitors for all their professional help in the sale of the business.”
Graham Wilkinson, hotel agent at Christie and Co who managed the sale, said: “It has been a pleasure to work with Helen and her son Stephen, as Helen looks to retire. I am pleased to have been able to introduce Wheyrigg Hall to Stuart and Tracey Davidson who, I am sure, will continue to offer a warm welcome to all their guests, and I am delighted to have been able to assist in the process.”
