Malmaison and Hotel du Vin have appointed Chris Lyall as the new cluster general manager, overseeing both Newcastle properties, as well as managing the £2m bedroom refurbishment at Malmaison.
Lyall brings with him over a decade of experience with Malmaison: he first joined Malmaison Newcastle in 2015 as deputy general manager, quickly rising through the ranks to become hotel manager in 2017 and then general manager in 2019.
Now, as cluster general manager, he takes on responsibility for Hotel du Vin Newcastle, marking a new chapter in his career and for the two hotels under his leadership.
One of his first responsibilities in his new role will be to oversee a £2m transformation of the bedrooms at Malmaison Newcastle, set to be completed in Autumn 2025. This significant investment is part of the brand’s wider refurbishment project to revitalise its 18 properties in the collection.
Since the project’s inception, the initiative has seen the revitalisation of the bedrooms, brasseries, bars and public spaces at the Malmaison Manchester, Liverpool, Aberdeen, Belfast and Reading hotels.
Scott Harper, chief operating officer for Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, said: “We’re thrilled to see Chris take on this expanded role, it’s incredibly well deserved. Over the past ten years, Chris has continually impressed us with his tenacity, ambition, and deep understanding of our brand. As someone who has grown with us, promoting Chris into this pivotal role is not only a reflection of his capabilities, but also a proud example of our ongoing investment in homegrown talent.
“His strong roots in the Newcastle community and progressive direction make him the ideal leader to guide both hotels forward, building on our strong foundations and ensuring we stay at the forefront of Newcastle’s hotel scene.”
Lyall added: “I’m incredibly proud to be taking on this new role. Having spent the past ten years growing within the business, I’ve seen firsthand the support and opportunity that comes with being part of a company that truly values its people. Being trusted to lead two iconic hotels in my home city is a real honour, and I’m excited to continue building on the strong foundations we’ve laid, alongside such an exceptional team.”
