Hempstead House Hotel and Spa in Sittingbourne, Kent has been brought to market with an initial asking price of £6m.
The hotel has been independently owned and operated under the stewardship of the Holdstock family since 1990, when it was originally purchased as a family home.
The family has been responsible for substantially upgrading the hotel’s facilities and expanding the range of services on offer to guests, widening the hotel’s customer base and achieving an AA 4-star rating.
The hotel boasts 34 guest bedrooms (plus a suite), extensive conference and function facilities, accommodating up to 200 delegates, and the AquaManda Spa offers five treatment rooms, a 15 metre indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, and jacuzzi, with an additional food and beverage offering at the Brasserie.
Current owners the Holdstock family have decided that the time is right as custodians of the hotel to step back and hand over to new owners, to further develop and enhance the business for the future.
Mandy Holdstock said: “Whilst it is of course sad to be selling a business with which we have been involved for over 35 years, now is the right time to step back.
“We wish a new buyer every success during their ownership of this well-established and highly profitable hotel. Most importantly, we would like to thank the staff, with whom we have shared this memorable journey, for their hard work and dedication over the years.”
Ed Bellfield, regional hotel director at Christie and Co who is handling the sale, added: “The sale of Hempstead House Hotel and Spa represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a highly successful hotel business with significant repeat patronage, largely due to its continued ownership and continuity within the same family since 1990.
“The reputation and success of the business is testament to the continued re-investment and family stewardship over recent decades, combined with its renowned regional reputation. We wish the Holdstocks well on their retirement and the closing of a long-established chapter.”
