The Ambassadors Hotel Bloomsbury has relaunched as The Memoir Club following an “extensive” renovation and rebrand that cost over £7m.
The property’s “bold new identity” is said to blend heritage with “modern sophistication”, and pays tribute to the cultural history of the Bloomsbury Set, taking its name from a club set up by the group in 1920.
Its interiors feature commissioned artworks, period-inspired décor, and “nuanced” design elements, such as a carpet interwoven with motifs from Virginia Woolf’s work.
The design refresh was led by ICA Studio, based in Glasgow, which helped redesign The Memoir Club’s 100 guestrooms in an art deco style. Each of the six guestroom categories feature Apple TV, Nespresso coffee machines, eco-friendly amenities and charging points.
The Adeline Restaurant is named in homage to Woolf’s birth name, and offers a Eastern-Mediterranean menu inspired by her travels, as well as cocktails creations named after other Bloomsbury luminaries such as the Champagne-based Keynes Twister.
The refurbished hotel also features large and small events spaces, which can accommodate meetings and social occasions for up to 300 people for a drinks reception. For larger scale conferences or corporate events, groups of up to 264 delegates can be accommodated. The spaces are named after Lytton Strachey, John Maynard Keynes and E.M. Forster, who were also members of the Bloomsbury Set.
The Memoir Club is located a five-minute walk from Euston Station and ten minutes from St. Pancras Station.
General manager George Konstas said: “We are immensely proud to unveil our new transformation —a celebration of both our storied past and dynamic future. The Memoir Club embodies the spirit of innovation and artistic expression that has always been at the heart of Bloomsbury. Guests will not only experience world-class hospitality but also immerse themselves in a living narrative of culture, creativity, and community.”
