The Royal Oak in Keswick has reopened following a £1.1m refurbishment.
Thwaites, the hospitality group that owns the inn, closed the site in March to allow for “major upgrades” to all areas of the property.
With interiors designed by Nanu Group, the inn now features “cosy corners”, a new snug area and restaurant, and a slate fire.
Located right in the heart of Keswick, The Royal Oak features 18 bedrooms which also benefitted from the full refurbishment. The bedrooms are set to welcome guests from June, with future bookings being taken now.
The new restaurant serves dishes made from locally sourced ingredients including a meat sharing plate, Thwaites original steak and ale pie, and a mussels and Thai broth.
The upgrades incorporate Thwaites’ “cosy signature style” and home comforts, with interiors that pay tribute to its rural location and 18th Century heritage.
Details include bespoke robes and en-suite bathrooms which combine pops of colour with luxury amenities, including toiletries from Cumbrian-based fragrance and natural skincare brand, Bath House.
Mick Horan, inns operations director at Thwaites, said: “The Royal Oak is a popular, traditional inn in one of the Lake District’s most popular areas.
“The investment has not only given the Grade II listed building a new lease of life – conserving it for decades to come – but has also created a more elevated space that we’re certain guests will enjoy.”
