The Chateau Impney in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, has appointed the UK’s first ‘taster in residence’ following an extensive nationwide search.
Lisa Gallacher, a 37-year-old local government officer, defeated seven other finalists to claim the role in a series of head-to-head tasting battles, where she had to taste and analyse a number of specially prepared dishes, and correctly identify as many ingredients as possible.
Gallacher was crowned after a two-month nationwide search for a “passionate foodie” to test and provide independent feedback on dishes being developed for Chateau Impney’s various menus.
Gallacher will now work with the hotels executive chef, Stephen Unwin, and his team on a monthly basis for the next six months.
Gallacher said: “Being the UK’s first taster in residence is a fantastic opportunity, and I hope to embrace it as much as possible. I’m thoroughly looking forward to my first taste feedback session, and I’m excited to work with Stephen and his team throughout the year.”
Ben Elder, Chateau Impney’s general manager, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to appoint Lisa as not only our first taster in residence, but the nation’s as well.
“Although every finalist had a wealth of experience and an astounding amount of food knowledge, Lisa demonstrated a keen passion for good food and great flavours that stood head-and-shoulders above the rest.”
Chateau Impney, which serves over 55,000 meals each year, received applications from across the globe for the role, including Canada and America.
