A hotel in Brighton was evacuated yesterday (23 April) following reports of smoke and a gas alarm sounding.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 12:30pm, and six crews were mobilised to the Harbour Hotel on King’s Road. There were no reports of any casualties, and crews are investigating the cause.
Motorists and pedestrians were also urged to avoid Brighton seafront from Madeira Drive to West Street.
A statement by the fire service read: “An ongoing incident at the Brighton Harbour hotel along the seafront has now been scaled down. Motorists are still advised to avoid the area while investigations are being carried out by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
“A section of the road along the seafront from Madeira Drive to West Street still remains closed and motorists are urged to find an alternative route to avoid the heavily congested area.”
