The Horizon Hotel on the market for £1.25m

Horizon Hotel, one of Ayr’s longest running family businesses, has been brought to market for a price of £1.25m

The stately hotel and wedding venue comprises 25 en suite bedrooms, function suite with panoramic sea views, beer garden, and the 80 cover Vista Restaurant & Cocktail Bar, which provides views over the Clyde to the Isle of Arran.

Conveniently located a short walk away from Ayr town centre, the hotel also offers easy access to nearby shops and attractions, including three municipal golf courses, Belleisle, Seafield and Dalmilling, as well as the Open Golf Championship courses of Royal Troon and Trump Turnberry.

Current owner, Alan Meikle who has owned Horizon Hotel for almost four decades, said: “The hotel has been at the centre of my life for 39 years, but it is now time for me to retire and hand the reins on to someone new. Life in the hotel is fast, interesting, and always enjoyable – every day is different.

“I have the utmost respect for the wonderful team of staff we have at the hotel and know they will continue to support the new operator the same way they have supported us. We have asked Christie and Co to manage the sale as their experience and advice have always been sound – they are a trusted pair of hands.”

Josh Hill, business agent at Christie and Co’s Glasgow office, who is handling the sale, added: “Horizon Hotel presents a fantastic opportunity that will suit a number of buyer types including owner operators and group hotel operators. The hotel has a tremendous reputation for not only providing a welcoming stay but also with regards to providing a quality food offering in the well-equipped restaurant.

“The function venue, which is popular for wedding ceremonies and private parties, allows a new owner to build on a well established and growing business by taking advantage of the multiple income streams. A truly great business and investment opportunity for any new owner.”
