The Isle of Skye’s Skeabost Country House Hotel has been awarded ‘silver’ in green tourism, following an extensive search by the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
The audit examined all aspects of the hotel’s eco-friendliness, from in-room recycling and LED lighting installation, to sustainably sourced food produce and the avoidance of harmful toiletries and cleaning products.
A statement said that the hotel was found to have “a number of environmentally-conscious initiatives” in place.
Particular praise was heaped on the hotel’s hydro-electric scheme, which will see 166,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy supplied to the property in the near future, as well as its commitment to the sustainable sourcing of fish from the surrounding waters.
Shaun Sim, the hotel’s general manager, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded Silver by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. Our staff are very much aware of their environmental responsibilities and we are continually searching for ways to further reduce our waste and inefficiencies.
“To see the team’s hard work in this regard paying off is extremely gratifying.”
