Hand Picked Hotels acquires Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa in £15m deal

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Hand Picked Hotels has acquired the Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa in St Helier, Jersey, in a deal estimated to be worth £15m.

The hotel, which was under ownership of RBS Real Estate Management, takes the group’s portfolio up to a total of 21 hotels.

The 123-bedroom hotel, which had been on the market through Savills with a guide price of £15m, will undergo a complete rebranding in 2015.

The acquisition is the group’s fourth in the past three years. Fawsley Hotel & Spa near Silverstone in Northamptonshire and St Pierre Park Hotel & Golf Resort in Guernsey were purchased last year and Bailbrook House Hotel in Bath was bought in 2012.

Julia Hands, who formed Hand Picked Hotels in 2001 with her husband, the financier Guy Hands, said: “The acquisition of Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa underlines our commitment to Hand Picked Hotels. We have seen the potential for increased corporate and conference business across the Channel Islands, with strong demand from clients in London and other feeder cities throughout the UK.

“Grand Jersey will enable us to attract conference and corporate business which tends to focus on St Helier, while L’Horizon Hotel & Spa at St Brelade’s Bay appeals to a more leisure orientated audience.”
