Guests were evacuated from the Old Coastguard Hotel in Cornwall just after midnight yesterday (19 June) after a fire broke out at the property.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service received several 999 calls stating that there was a fire at a hotel in Mousehole, and a fire engine from Penzance, St Just as well as a wholetime flexi officer were mobilised.
A further appliance from Hayle, an operational support vehicle from Falmouth and the incident control unit from St Just were also mobilised. The fire service said the blaze was contained to the kitchen area and an investigation is now underway to determine the cause.
A statement by the Old Coastguard Hotel read: “We’re hugely upset to have had a fire at The Old Coastguard overnight. Thankfully, our systems appear to have held up well and all guests are safe and sound. We send our apologies to them for having to disturb their night.
“It’ll take a day or two to establish what has been relatively significant damage and the work that has to be done to put things back as they should be.”
It continued: “As a result, we will be closed (bedrooms, bar & restaurant) until further notice, a period that we hope is no more than a few days. We are taking guidance from the fire authorities at the moment.”
