Industry charity introduces Hampshire and Suffolk routes to nationwide wellbeing event ahead of October launch

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

Hospitality Action will expand its annual fundraising walk into two new UK locations when the industry event returns in October, organisers have announced.

The addition of Hampshire and Suffolk brings the total number of nationwide walking routes to 14. The initiative, which raises money for the wellbeing and support services of the charity, offers participants a choice between 10km and 20km walks throughout the month.

The event will begin in Glasgow on 10 October 2026 to coincide with World Mental Health Day, before progressing through cities including Liverpool, Manchester, and London. Since its inception six years ago, the programme has expanded from a single London group to a national campaign that drew more than 1,400 participants and raised £170,000 last year.

Corporate partners for the event include recruitment firm Mum, Caterer, HR in Hospitality, Imperial London Hotels, and Nespresso. Organisers have also introduced a flexible participation option allowing individuals to design their own routes during the two-week campaign.

Creator of Walk for Wellbeing Craig Prentice said: “What started as a simple way to bring people together during a difficult time for hospitality in 2020, six years on, it’s incredibly inspiring to see the event continue to grow each year and unite people across the country. The hospitality industry has always been powered by people, and people thrive when they feel connected.

“Walk for Wellbeing acknowledges the industry’s continued journey of resilience and reconnection and brings together individuals, teams and businesses to champion a positive conversation around wellbeing and celebrate personal connection and support across the industry.”

The evolution of Walk for Wellbeing and its growing impact

News Analysis

Since its inception in 2020, Walk for Wellbeing has seen remarkable growth, having raised over £500,000 by November 2025 to support Hospitality Action, demonstrating a surge in community involvement within the hospitality sector. This initiative, which began with a modest group, expanded to include 12 host cities such as Cornwall and Edinburgh, with over 1,400 participants contributing to the cause in 2025 alone, highlighting a significant increase in awareness and financial support for mental health initiatives within the industry. Event raises £500,000 by November 2025.

In 2024, the event saw further participation, with host cities increasing to nine including key locations like Liverpool and Glasgow. This year marked the campaign’s fifth anniversary, featuring over 1,000 participants who came together to promote mental health awareness and wellbeing whilst raising £135,000 for Hospitality Action. Such engagement underlines the growing recognition of mental health and community support within the hospitality industry, which has become a vital part of its operations. Event raises £135,000 in 2024.

As the Walk for Wellbeing continues to expand, the insights gained from previous years underscore the increasing need for mental health support in the hospitality sector, especially highlighted in the context of the ongoing financial pressures faced by many workers. The charity reported record high calls for assistance related to mental health and financial worries, indicating that initiatives like this not only help raise funds but also foster a much-needed sense of community and solidarity among hospitality workers across the UK. Partnership highlights essential support for workers.
