Apex Hotels has announced the purchase of a site in central Bath, with plans for a £35m hotel development.
The site, currently occupied by an empty office building, is within the Bath Conservation Area and benefits from detailed planning consent for redevelopment into a new 177-bedroom full service hotel with conference facilities.
Apex will demolish the current building later this year, with the construction of the new hotel scheduled to begin in May 2015 and an estimated opening date of autumn 2016.
Edinburgh-based IS Architects have been appointed to oversee the project.
Norman Springford, chairman of Apex Hotels, said: “This is a rare and exciting growth opportunity for Apex to add to our portfolio and have presence in a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
The new site is situated on the corner of Charles Street and James Street West within Bath City Centre.
