In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

Amaris Hospitality has announced it has committed over £21.7m of capital investment to the transformation of several of its landmark hotels located in Edinburgh, Islington, Oxford, Bristol and Dublin.

Over £6m is being invested in the complete refurbishment of 230 bedrooms in the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in London’s Islington, while £2m is being invested in the group’s DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at Edinburgh Airport.

The “substantial” transformation of the 373 bedroom Islington hotel will see a major enhancement of its accommodation to bring all bedrooms to four-star-quality rooms, boasting modern designs in line with customer expectations.

The Islington project follows a significant £13m investment undertaken by Amaris Hospitality in the hotel in 2014 to add 143 new bedrooms as part of the hotel’s repositioning and rebranding from Jurys Inn to a DoubleTree by Hilton.

In Edinburgh, the group has committed to the full refurbishment of the entire 150 bedrooms at its DoubleTree by Hilton hotel at Edinburgh Airport, as well as the development of a new food and beverage concept to be announced soon.

Work has commenced on site and is due to be completed in early 2020, at which point the premises will become the only full service 4-star hotel at Edinburgh Airport.

Peter Stack, CEO of Amaris Hospitality, said: “Our extensive investment programme forms a key part of our ambitious growth strategy to build a unique portfolio of high-performing, best-in-brand hotels that deliver a great customer experience and high-standards, whilst at the same time also allowing us to drive superior business performance in individual hotels and across our portfolio.

“We are very excited to be the first hotel in the UK to embrace Five Steps to Fitness rooms, just one of the examples that illustrates our commitment to leading the way in industry innovation across our estate, ensuring our guests have access to best-in-class amenities.”

Other work being undertaken as part of the programme includes renovations to 40 bedrooms, totalling £500,000, at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel with a further £2.5m being invested in the addition of 17 new bedrooms at the Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel.

Under the programme, Amaris Hospitality also recently completed a significant £10.5m extension to its landmark Hilton Garden Inn hotel at Custom House Quay in Dublin, adding 85 new bedrooms bringing the total to 324.

The current investment programme is scheduled to be fully completed in Q1 2020.
