‘Arsonists’ blamed for fire at disused Weston-super-Mare hotel

A fire which broke out at a disused hotel on Birnbeck Road, Weston-super-Mare, over the Easter Bank Holiday is being treated as arson.

According to ITV news, investigators from Avon Fire and Rescue service claim the fire was started deliberately.

Crews from Weston, Portishead, Avonmouth, Kingswood, Yatton and Winscombe fire stations were mobilised to reports of a fire at around 9pm on Sunday (12 April).

On arrival, firefighters found a fire in the “void hotel” consisting of three floors.

Crews used 12 breathing apparatus for safety, and three high pressure hose reel and two 45mm jets to extinguish the fire.

They also used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the property and a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots.

Police were also in attendance.
