Somerset Legion House, a Royal British Legion hotel based in Weston-super-Mare, has ceased operations as the charity looks to “refocus its resources” following the pandemic.
The site previously offered short stays and support for war veterans and their families – is under threat of closure.
The 47-room hotel provided short breaks for veterans and families with a connection to the armed forces.
The seafront site first opened its doors in October 2007, and cost £6.7m to build.
In a statement, the Royal British legion said: “The Royal British Legion’s Board of Trustees has confirmed that the charity has taken the difficult decision to cease operating its much loved break centre service.
“The Legion must refocus its resources to address changes in the Armed Forces community, as the type of support needed is growing increasingly complex with people requiring help across multiple issues.”
It added: “The reprioritised funding will provide increased resource for; casework and providing personalised support that fits individual need, immediate needs funding including crisis grants, investment in our care services for older members of the Armed Forces community, and funding external grants to charities providing specialist support.”
