Football star Cristiano Ronaldo is planning to open a new luxury hotel in Manchester’s Piccadilly.
The former Manchester United player has teamed up with Portuguese hospitality group Pestana – which already operates ‘CR7’ hotels in Madeira, Lisbon, Madrid, New York, Marrakesh and Paris – for a new hotel on the corner of Piccadilly and Newton Street.
According to the Manchester Evening News, plans have been submitted to Manchester Council for the development of a four-star hotel featuring 151-rooms, a bar and cafe, gym and a rooftop terrace.
The plans would see grade II listed Halls Building at 69-75 Piccadilly redevelop and number 67 replaced with an 11-storey tower.
If planning permission is granted the hotel would be set to open sometime in 2023.
A post on the Pestana website reads: “It couldn’t be more appropriate – after all, this is the city where Cristiano Ronaldo started his international career in Man. United back in 2003 and where he first used number 7.”
