The Home Secretary Theresa May has been given an insight into how the team at Maidenhead Travelodge is creating jobs, developing careers and bringing visitors to the area.
On Friday November 28, May met Peter Gowers, the company’s chief executive, along with the hotel manager for Maidenhead Central Travelodge, Kay Duff, and her team of 20.
After a tour of the 96-bedroom hotel, which has recently undergone a refurbishment, May learnt about career progression at Travelodge. Duff explained to May how she moved from a customer service advisor role into a management position.
May was also introduced to Hayley Adams, a member of the Travelodge team who recently graduated from the company’s junior management programme, the UK’s first budget hotel management apprenticeship programme for school leavers.
Adams is an assistant hotel manager and has been identified as one of the company’s future leaders, having also completed the company’s fast track to management programme, Gaining Entry to Management, earlier this year, a scheme which has seen over 400 people graduate into management positions.
At the meeting, May also discussed the impact of Crossrail, one station of which will be located just across the road from the hotel, and how to unlock the potential of the British tourism industry to help create jobs and boost the local and British economy.
Duff said: “I was thrilled to welcome our local MP Theresa May to Maidenhead Central Travelodge and show her our newly refurbished hotel. Mrs May enjoyed meeting the team and hearing all about their experiences climbing the career ladder.”
