Hilton Worldwide has announced it has signed a franchise deal with Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) to develop a Hilton Garden Inn at its ground – Emirates Old Trafford.
Construction of the 150-bedroom property, which will replace the existing 86-bedroom Old Trafford Lodge Hotel, is expected to start later this year, before the hotel opens in early 2017.
The five-floor hotel will feature free wi-fi, a restaurant, business centre, bar, the Pavillion Pantry which serves snacks throughout the day and a 24 hour fitness centre.
Michael Cairns, chairman of LCCC, said: “The Old Trafford Lodge is now 16 years old and has been a great asset to Lancashire County Cricket Club.
“However, due to the growth in our conference and events business at Emirates Old Trafford the time has now come to capitalise on the value and suitability of our location and to construct a high quality branded 150-room hotel which will complement our stunning venue.”
Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development, Europe & Africa, at Hilton Worldwide, said: “The hotel will play an important role in enhancing the growing mixed-use offer at Emirates Old Trafford, which has established itself as a thriving business and leisure hub.”
The hotel will join a number of Hilton Worldwide hotels located alongside sporting venues including Hilton Wembley, Hilton at St George’s Park, DoubleTree by Hilton Milton Keynes, and Hilton at the Ageas Bowl, which is expected to open in May this year.
