A London hotelier has raised £11,000 for Hospitality Action after swimming the English Channel.
Chris Penn, managing director at the Ace hotel in London’s Shoreditch area, completed the challenge on Wednesday, September 2, following months of intense training. The swim, which took him 14 hours, has been completed by fewer than 2,000 people.
Penny Moore, chief executive of Hospitality Action, said: “We are so pleased to have Chris safe and back on dry land. What he has achieved, both personally by completing this challenge and financially for the charity, is simply amazing.
“We want to thank Chris for all his considerable efforts and all those who have donated towards this marvellous adventure.”
Speaking before the event, Penn said: “I love challenges. I love pushing my mind and body and seeing how far it can take me. I have filled my life with challenges over the past 15 years and the more I take on, the more I want to try.
“Less than 2,000 people in the world have ever swum the Channel, [and] it sounds extreme, but I want to test myself and see if I can do it.”
