Travelodge has announced that it is set for a £22m expansion following the signing of three new hotels in shopping centre locations.
The three deals include a 78-room hotel in The Mall, near London’s Wood Green, a 63-room hotel in The Martlets shopping centre in Burgess Hill and a 58-room property The Mall, Bromley.
The three properties, which represent a combined investment of £22m and will create 75 new jobs, join the group’s seven existing shopping centre hotels in the Trafford Centre, Sheffield Meadowhall, Gateshead Metro Centre, Worcester Cathedral Plaza, Edmonton Green shopping centre and the Stamford Quarter in Altrincham.
In addition, Travelodge has also exchanged contracts to build a 74-room hotel at one of Europe’s biggest shopping centres, Intu Lakeside Travelodge.
Paul Harvey, managing director of property, said: “As part of our UK expansion programme we have identified the potential to open a further 250 hotels.
“To support this development and to leverage the interest shown by our recent shopping centre partnerships, we have written to 20 UK parent companies of shopping centres, to explain the benefits of utilising underused assets within their holdings.”
