Budget hotel chain Travelodge has reported a record year in 2015, according to its full-year financial report.
In its unaudited trading statement for the year ending 31 December 2015, the company reported that earnings before interest, taxes depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) exceeded £100m for the first time in the firm’s history.
Total revenue was up 13% to £558m, compared with £494m in 2014. This was boosted by a 11.7% jump in revenue per available room (RevPAR) to £38.44 and a 10.3% in the average room rate to £50.19. Occupancy was up 1% to 76.6%.
The company also welcomed a record 18 million customers during the year and completed its £100m modernisation programme.
Meanwhile, Travelodge said its ‘Travelodgical’ advertising campaign drove a 12% growth in web sales, while the company also saw a 45% growth in the number of direct business customer sales.
Peter Gowers, chief executive, said: “We are delighted to announce a record year for Travelodge. Our investment in the customer experience is delivering excellent results and our new-look rooms are driving substantial improvements in guest satisfaction.
“We are seeing significant growth from business customers and like-for-like sales growth was again substantially ahead of the UK hotel market.”
Travelodge said it opened 12 new hotels in 2015, with 19 new hotels expected to open in 2016.
