Ynyshir Hall to relaunch as restaurant with rooms

Ynyshir Hall – the 10-bedroom luxury hotel in Powys, Wales – is to rebrand in autumn as a restaurant with rooms.

Set to open in September under the new ownership of John and Jenny Talbot, the rebrand will see the business change its name to Ynyshir and focus on its 26-cover fine dining restaurant.

Menus will be overseen by head chef Gareth Ward, who joined the restaurant in 2013 and won a Michelin-star in his first full-year, followed by four AA Rosettes.

Ward, whose previous jobs include Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottinghamshire and Hambleton Hall in Rutland, specialises in tasting menus with an emphasis fresh and light foods with “exciting” flavours and local ingredients.

Guests will be able to choose from two 14-course tasting menus, which will constantly evolve with the British seasons. Current dishes include; ‘not French’ onion soup; sweet and sour mackerel; and Tiramisu.

There will also be a six-seater chef’s table within the kitchen, where Ward will offer a ‘surprise tasting menu’ bespoke to the guest.

The former hotel will continue to operate 10 luxury bedrooms in addition the the restaurant, each with its own design and views of the gardens and surrounding landscape.

As part of the relaunch opening days will be reduced to five days per week, with both the restaurant and rooms close on Sunday and Monday.
