Lake District hotel reports 50% business boost following £2.3m renovation

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The owners of an independently-run Lake District hotel have reported a boom in business following the addition of seven new luxury hot tub suites.

Within six months of officially opening the £2.3m suites, Applegarth Villa hotel and restaurant said it has seen a 50% increase in business each month and an increased number of repeat bookings as guests endeavour to try each individually-designed room.

Suzanne Mumford, owner of the property, said the hotel is “absolutely delighted” with the new luxury suites and the “fantastic response” it is receiving from both regular guests and brand new customers.

She said: “The suites have been so well received the only problem we foresee is that we are doing the rest of the county an injustice as guests are checking into the suites and not leaving them until it’s time to go home. They have become mini-retreats in the centre of the Lake District.”

Situated next door to the fifteen-bedroom hotel, the renovated coach house incorporates three different types of rooms – AV Suites, Garden Suites and one Duplex – all with views across the Lakeland fells.

Each room in the hotel, which was recently named as one of the top 25 luxury hotels in the UK at the TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Awards, features superfast broadband, mood lighting and an outside space consisting of a balcony or terrace with its own private hot tub.
