The Cottage in the Wood to undergo £2.5m refurb

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The new owners of The Cottage in the Wood, Nick and Julia Davies, have begun a £2.5m refurbishment project.

Located in the Worcestershire village Malvern Wells, the 30-bedroom hotel’s development will start with the restoration of the main house back to its former Georgian glory.

The hotel’s two-AA Rosette restaurant, called 1919, will also be refurbished. Georgian grey designs, nature-themed aesthetics, chandeliers and mirrors, to reflect the views over the Malvern Hills, will be incorporated into the redesign.

The project will “honour the the property and the surrounding location’s history”, including its links to literary greats such as CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien and composer Elgar.

Julia Davies said the project aims to turn the property into a destination hotel, restaurant and bar.

“We want guests to be able to experience delectable dining, fine wines, new treats such as gentlemen’s afternoon tea and beautiful bedrooms, enhanced by the property’s magical storytelling heritage,” she added.
