Guoman & Thistle Hotels raises £82,000 for Springboard UK

During a recent ceremony at the Dorchester, Guoman & Thistle Hotels’ commercial director Colin Roy presented a cheque for £82,000 to hospitality charity Springboard UK.

To raise the money, the group promoted an initiative encouraging guests to donate £1 for every hotel stay. The total was boosted by staff fundraising events, such as the 457-mile bike ride from Thistle Heathrow to Thistle Glasgow, which raised £1,481.25.

Colin Roy remarked: “As a group, we remain passionate about industry learning and believe in contributing to skills and actively developing talent within our industry. Springboard’s values are close to our own – they develop and strengthen talent, which is why we are delighted to continue to support and work with the charity to set people on their way to long and vibrant careers within the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry.”

The Springboard Charity and Springboard UK’s chief executive Anne Pierce commented: “We are thrilled at the amount raised by Guoman & Thistle and will be using these vital funds towards the programmes to help young people – especially those facing multiple barriers to work – into life-changing careers in hospitality, leisure and tourism. Our programmes will provide an on-going way to make a real impact.”

Springboard helps young, unemployed and disadvantaged people to gain employment within hospitality, leisure and tourism. The charity provides support through a range of programmes that help to develop skills, provide pre-employment training and post-employment mentoring, with the aim of equipping people with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to achieve their potential.
