Golfers staying at a 36-bedroom Suffolk golf hotel are swapping white balls for pink ones this week to raise money for a breast cancer charity.
Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club in Suffolk is running a pink-themed golf breaks package and tournament to raise money for a breast cancer charity. The Thorpeness Pink Putter is being held this Friday, October 25, on national ‘Wear it Pink’ Day.
Golfers entering the Thorpeness Pink Putter have been asked to dress in pink clothes, play with pink golf balls and donate their entry fees to charity.
October is also Breast Cancer Care’s designated Breast Cancer Awareness Month and pink themed fundraising events are taking place across the UK.
Paul Clouting, hotel director at Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club, said: “People think golf and think green but we are asking golfers to turn our course pink this week for a special cause.
“We like to think that our guests have lots of fun when they stay and play golf with us and this is a great opportunity to pink up, get in the swing and raise lots of money for the fight against Britain’s most common cancer.”
The Pink Putter is a Stableford competition open to golfers from across the UK and will take place around Thorpeness’ highly rated James Braid designed heathland course on Suffolk’s Heritage Coast. The club has reduced its prices for green fees and play and stay golf breaks to encourage golfers to pull on pink.
The club’s Halfway House will be open throughout the day serving pink drinks and snacks and there will also be a range of prizes for competitors, donated by Adnams of Southwold, including nearest the pin at a par three, nearest the line for lady golfers and longest drive of the day.
