Hortons’ completes work on Macdonald Burlington Hotel

Independent property company, Hortons’ Estate Ltd, has completed work on the historic façade of the Macdonald Burlington Hotel building in Birmingham’s city centre.

The scaffolding, which covered the building, has now been removed to the New Street elevation of the property to reveal the restored exterior of the Victorian building. 

According to the company, structural repairs have been carried out on five dormer windows on the uppermost floors, with brickwork repointed and leadwork repaired and replaced where necessary. Paintwork has also been cleaned, including the parapet detailing at the highest levels of the building.

It is reported that Hortons’ has made a “significant” investment in conducting necessary works to repair and replace the building’s damaged stonework, including one section of the Lower Temple Street façade.

The Macdonald Burlington Hotel is part of the Burlington Arcade, a mixed use period building with seven floors. The property houses retail accommodation to the ground, first and basement levels, hotel accommodation to the ground and upper floors, and office accommodation also to the upper floors.

“Historic buildings always present their own unique challenges and a lot of unforeseen issues were discovered during the project, particularly in relation to the dormer windows. We’re very pleased to have completed these works safely and to a high standard and unveiled a facade that is fully restored.”
