YTL Hotels’ Academy Hotel Bloomsbury undergoes redesign

New boutique property, Academy Hotel, has revealed details of its multi-million-pound interior redesign by world-renowned New York-based firm, Champalimaud.

Located in Bloomsbury in London’s West End, the hotel is the latest addition to the YTL Hotels UK portfolio. Champalimaud has worked closely with the team to convert five Georgian townhouses into a 50-room hotel in London.

The redesign is inspired by the Bloomsbury Set who lived and worked in this part of London in the early 20th Century. The team at Champalimaud – which designed YTL Hotels’ first British property The Gainsborough Bath Spa – has created a space that recognises the “style and exuberance of the Bloomsbury Set”.

Each of the guest rooms have been designed to celebrate 240 years of the Georgian hotel’s history and feature high ceilings and sash windows, en-suite marble bathrooms and high king-sized beds. Guests may choose from the Bloomsbury Suites, which encompass a generous living space, the Bloomsbury Double, the Townhouse Twin room and the Townhouse Single, a cosy room for solo travellers.

Alexandra Champalimaud, said: “We are honoured and grateful that YTL has asked us to partner with them on this wonderful project. We have collaborated with YTL on a number of impressive hospitality projects over the years and our creative relationship only continues to blossom.

“We wanted the character of The Academy’s charming interiors to strongly resonate with the neighboring community, and to become not only a treasured destination for guests – but a lively and vibrant haunt in the heart of London. Tapping into Bloomsbury’s storied past, we were inspired to create a space that is intimate, fresh, and rich with charisma and narrative.”
