Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland has partnered with the surplus food platform, Too Good To Go, in a bid to reduce food waste across its hotels.
Through the partnership, customers can purchase Surprise Bags from 46 Leonardo Hotels across the UK, containing a mixture of breakfast items, including hot food and pastries.
Leonardo Hotels said that according to data from WWF’s ‘Driven to Waste’ report in 2021, food waste is responsible for 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, with 2.5 billion tonnes of food going to waste annually, and its partnership with Leonardo Hotels is helping to reduce the 40% of food currently being wasted globally.
So far, the hotel chain has sold over 4,138 Surprise Bags to new and existing customers in the UK. In doing so, Leonardo Hotels has saved the equivalent of 10 tonnes in food waste and has avoided the amount of CO2e emissions it would take to charge 1.8 million phones, run a shower for 22 days, or take 12 one-way flights from London to New York.
Leonardo Hotels operates 53 centrally located hotels and over 11,000 rooms. As one of the fastest-growing hotel groups in Europe, it has three brands – Leonardo Hotels, Leonardo Royal Hotels, and NYX Hotels across a growing portfolio.
It is also part of Fattal Hotels, an entrepreneurial and expanding international hotel group, which owns and operates over 200 hotels in over 100 destinations, with plans to rapidly expand its global presence. In Europe, it has over 150 hotels across 86 cities and 14 countries.
