Scottish hotel and leisure entrepreneurs looking to capitalise on the Commonwealth Games have received £100m of funding from Santander.
The bank’s ‘corporate and commercial’ arm has already lent more than £30m to hotel and leisure businesses in the first half of 2014, ahead of the Games and the Ryder Cup golf tournament.
It has now committed to making a further £70m of funding available during the remainder of this year “to support a strong post-Games legacy”.
Funding has already helped to open a new business centre in Inverness earlier this year, with plans to build larger business centres in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Dundee by the end of the year.
Kevin Boyd, Santander’s MD for Scotland, Northern Ireland and north east England, said: “Scotland has long been home to businesses which are characterised by their innovation and determination to succeed, and we are committed to helping them achieve their ambitions.
“The Commonwealth Games and other great events this year are having a strong impact on the Scottish hotels and leisure sectors, which look set to continue to be positive contributor to Scotland’s economy.”
