Down Hall Hotel in Essex has announced a £1m investment to expand its luxury offering, introducing new outdoor dining, spa and event facilities.

The 110-acre country house estate is set to launch three additions: an alfresco dining concept called the Woodland Table; a new wellness facility, the Garden Spa Retreat; and a landscaped outdoor events space, the Charles Gardens.

The Woodland Table, opening in July, will offer seasonal open-fire cooking in a woodland setting and will be available for corporate events, weddings and ticketed dinners.

The Garden Spa Retreat, due to open in September, will feature five treatment rooms and a landscaped terrace for outdoor relaxation.

Meanwhile, the Charles Gardens is expected to launch in April 2026. Designed by Hicks and Hart, the half-acre venue will accommodate up to 180 guests and includes a ceremonial gazebo, central aisle, bar terrace and lounge garden.

More than 40 trees will be planted alongside formal hedging, ornamental grasses and sculptural domes.

Linden Beattie, general manager of Down Hall Hotel, said: “We are incredibly proud to unveil these latest additions to the Down Hall Estate. This new phase of investment underscores our commitment to continuously enhancing the guest experience while preserving the character and charm of our historic property

“Whether dining beneath the canopy of The Woodland Table, finding tranquillity in our new Garden Spa Retreat, or celebrating milestones in The Charles Gardens, we are redefining what it means to escape to the English countryside. Down Hall is now a true destination for luxury stays, extraordinary events and exceptional dining.”
