Belfast City Council’s planning committee has approved several major developments, including a new hotel in the Botanic area and a leisure complex in Boucher.
The 164-bedroom hotel, proposed by Andras House, will be built at the junction of Botanic Avenue and Donegall Pass, with a ground floor bar and restaurant.
The site is currently occupied by a surface car park and a retail and office unit.
The committee also approved plans to convert office and storage space at Adelaide Business Centre on Apollo Road into a leisure facility with a bowling alley, restaurant, indoor golf, children’s soft play area, virtual reality zone, amusements and parking.
Permission was also granted for a drive-through café near Lidl supermarket and Olympia Leisure Centre on Boucher Road, and for street art on the façade of the former Belfast Telegraph building on Royal Avenue.
Councillor Ryan Murphy, committee chair, said: “It’s further good news for tourists and visitors to Belfast to have another major hotel development approved, this time in the Botanic area. This new hotel will be close to shops, bars, restaurants and other local visitor attractions.”
