In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

A new Courtyard by Marriott hotel has officially opened in Sheffield, expanding the city’s accommodation offer at the Advanced Manufacturing Park.

The 150-bedroom property is owned by Stapleford Ventures and is operated by RBH Hospitality Management, marking the operator’s first hotel in Sheffield.

The opening adds to RBH’s growing relationship with Marriott International, following the addition earlier this year of The Edinburgh Grand, a Luxury Collection, Edinburgh and Old Town Chambers Autograph Collection to its portfolio.

The hotel is led by general manager Filipe Chaby-Rodrigues, an experienced hotelier. Facilities include a restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces, and a fitness centre. The on-site dining offer is provided by Aspen Restaurant and Bar.

RBH Hospitality Management operates hotels across a range of branded and independent properties in the UK, including in the upscale and luxury segments.

David Hart, chief executive of RBH Hospitality Management, said: “Courtyard by Marriott Sheffield is a valuable addition to our portfolio, marking our first property in Sheffield.

“The opening also strengthens our long-term relationship with Marriott International as we continue to make progress against our strategic objectives of expanding our portfolio across the UK and operating a diverse mix of brands across the hotel chain scale, alongside our expertise in the luxury hotel market and independent hotel sector.”
