Leonardo Limited Edition UK Hotels has announced that Hotel Gotham will reopen as The Rex on 23 April, a revamp it said symbolises the “bold evolution for one of Manchester’s most iconic addresses”.
The boutique hotel company said that the newly revamped hotel, which includes 60 rooms over seven floors, will preserve its Art Deco heritage while bringing in a contemporary style.
Located within a former bank, the rebrand will also introduce a private member’s club ‘Reserve’ on the seventh floor behind vault-themed doors, consisting of three rooftop terraces with panoramic skyline views and small plates dining.
In line with the hotel’s banking theme, guests will also be able to make use of Treasury, a secret events space.
The company has also refreshed the building’s restaurant and bar areas, which it said preserved their existing character with minor adjustments to detailing, texture, and palette.
Leonardo Limited Edition UK Hotels acquired the original Hotel Gotham in late May 2024.
In the heart of Manchester, the hotel was designed in 1928 by Edward Lutyens as the headquarters for The Midland Bank.
Jenny Oh, general manager of The Rex, said: “While our name has evolved, the hotel our guests know and love remains very much the same. This rebrand is an expressive upgrade, retaining the character, comfort, and connection people cherish, while introducing a more modern, sophisticated expression of who we are today. It reflects our commitment to our guests, our team, and the community we’re proud to be part of, while honouring the history that has shaped us.”
