Neil Butler, hotel manager at the Chester Grosvenor, is stepping away from the hospitality sector after 35 years.

Butler, who previously held management roles at Macdonald Hotels and Resorts, Hotel Gotham and Hotel Brooklyn, is to “move on to an exciting new chapter”, he said in a LinkedIn post.

His resignation follows the announcement that the Chester Grosvenor will close indefinitely this September, after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) was discovered in several conference rooms.

Paul Mannion, speaking on behalf of Grosvenor hotels, said: “We are sorry to acknowledge that Bespoke Hotels has taken the decision to cease operating the hotel following its summer closure, and for the impact this will have on those whose roles may be affected. Our priority now is to ensure the long-term future of the hotel given its importance to Chester.”

Speaking on his departure, Butler said: “As I reflect on this journey, my greatest gratitude goes to the many people, friends, and colleagues I have had the privilege to work with, lead, support, and learn from along the way. While achievements and milestones are important, what has always meant the most to me is helping others grow. Guiding staff, sharing knowledge, supporting development, and seeing individuals gain confidence and succeed in their own careers has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my professional life.

“Thank you to everyone who has been part of my 35-year journey. The memories, lessons, friendships, and achievements will stay with me.”
