The Hyatt Hotels Corporation (HHC) has announced the Hyatt Regency Birmingham has been purchased outright for approximately £27 million.
Operating as the Hyatt Regency Birmingham since its opening in 1990 under co-ownership, the HCC has now purchased the hotel fully, as it had been run by a third party management agreement from 2002. The HHC now plan to invest a further £6 million renovating it to strengthen its position as a leading Birmingham hotel.
“The team at the hotel is delighted at the news that a Hyatt affiliate has purchased the hotel,” said Tim Flodin, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Birmingham. “And as one of the most popular hotels in the city among both business and leisure guests, we have a proud history of hospitality in Birmingham and look forward to the exciting times ahead.”
“At Hyatt Regency Birmingham, we are committed to supporting the local community, working closely with surrounding businesses, colleges and charities, including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Stourbridge College, University College Birmingham and catering college KHCSC.”
The current capabilities of the hotel meant it was already a great proposition for the company, with area director Michael Gray commenting: “We believe that the hotel’s excellent location and full range of services, event capabilities and dining options will continue to make this one of the city’s very best places to stay and to hold an event.
“We are very enthused about this investment in the property,” added Mr Gray. Situated in Birmingham city centre, the Hyatt Regency Birmingham is a modern, 4-star hotel adjacent to Centenary Square, across the road from the Symphony Hall and minutes from the National Indoor Arena (NIA) and the exclusive Mailbox and Bull Ring shopping centres.
It occupies a 24-storey, glass-fronted building and is a prevalent part of the central Birmingham skyline. With a bridge link to the city’s landmark International Convention Centre, it is one of the leading convention hotels in the UK and regularly hosts annual political party conferences.
