US Open and Olympic tennis champion Andy Murray has spent around £2 million on a hotel near his home town of Dunblane.
The 14-bedroom Cromlix House Hotel, the venue for his brother’s wedding in 2010, sits among 36 acres of landscaped gardens within a 2,000-acre estate that includes four fishing lochs and two mineral springs. Murray was one of three bidders for the 4-star property, which closed last February.
“He knows the place well,” a source close to the property reportedly remarked.
“Nobody knows what he intends to do with the hotel. It is only 10 minutes by helicopter from Gleneagles, which could prove useful during the 2014 Ryder Cup.
“On the other hand, it could be that Andy will restore it as a private house so that he has a luxury base in Scotland to come back to.”
