The British Hospitality Association (BHA) has reacted to the results of the general election, which led to a hung parliament due to the Conservatives failing to gain a majority vote.
As the pound sterling was reported to have dropped 2.3% against the dollar following the results, the BHA has described the outcome as “bad for the economy and business.”
Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the BHA, said: “The general election result means that we will be faced with the reality of greater and continued political uncertainty in the short term.
“This is the last thing the hospitality and tourism industry needs as we already face a ‘perfect storm’ of issues but the BHA will work with whatever government emerges to see a return to stability and certainty so that we can get on with creating jobs and growth in the economy.”
The BHA has previously sent a manifesto to the main political parties urging them to consider the hospitality industry and its reliance on a EU workforce during Brexit negotiations.
With just 10 days before discussions to leave the EU are due to begin, the lack of a government has put things into uncertainty.
