Scandal-hit Clayton Lodge Hotel hopes to restore rep with under-18 ban

Clayton Lodge Hotel has released its plans to restore its reputation, including a ban of guests under the age of 18 on its premises.

The hotel in Newcastle-under-Lyme had its entertainment and alcohol licence suspended following allegations of child exploitation, drug use and underage drinking on its premises.

The local council also called for the removal of its premises supervisor. The hotel was investigated in April after a report was put together by the borough council, Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue service.

In May, its licence was suspended.

With two months left until its licence is restored, new owner, Lobna Hossni, has told Hotel Owner her plans to get the Clayton Lodge back on its feet.

Saying that most of the staff were “young with no experience”, she claimed that the issues could have been avoided by the previous owner “if correct training was put in place”. Hossni also revealed that staff training for child sex exploitation (CSE) would be carried out by Staffordshire police.

She went on to say that the property’s fire, health and safety training would be renewed, a photocopy of every ID would be taken at check in and deposits would be taken for rooms paid for in cash. She then said that no one “under 18 will be allowed into the hotel” and ensured that CCTV would be in “full working order.”

Hossni said: “I was brought in to help bring the hotel to a better place. Unfortunately I can not say how long it will take for the public to restore their faith in us but I am doing my best to make sure only good news will come out of Clayton Lodge.”

She added: “I would say anyone in my position will feel a bit under pressure but I will be concentrating at the job in hand and I will do my best to implement changes for the better.”
