Hastings Hotels has appointed Northern Ireland’s first ever female head concierge at its 4-star Slieve Donard Resort and Spa in Newcastle.
Colleen Grant, who joined the hotel in 2009 as a receptionist, has progressed through the ranks at the Slieve Donard having successfully completed the Hastings trainee management programme. Colleen was the first female concierge working in Northern Ireland until last month, when Hastings Hotels appointed Lesley McLeod in its 5-star Culloden Estate & Spa Hotel.
The concierge plays an increasingly strategic role in the overall guest experience as they are an ambassador and key focal point for all types of questions and answers and Hastings Hotels understands the importance this role plays in ensuring a first-class service.
Howard Hastings, managing director of Hastings Hotels said: “We are delighted to have appointed Colleen as our first ever female head concierge and in doing so, she is Northern Ireland’s first female to have achieved this position.”
“The role of concierge is of upmost importance in all of our hotels and quite often it is the first point of contact a guest will have, so it is a very demanding position to have and I have no doubt that Colleen will excel in her new position, ensuring all guests at the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa will have a fantastic stay.”
Colleen Grant, head concierge of the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa said: “I am delighted to have been appointed head concierge in what is a first for Northern Ireland. It is a typically male job role and I hope that I will help inspire other women in Northern Ireland to think about a similar role.”
“I find my job very rewarding as it is often the first point of contact for guests when they are planning what to do and helping them with any queries they may have during their stay ensuring they have a wonderful time. When visiting Newcastle, people always have an idea of what they would like to do, but it is always nice to share some hidden gems to make sure they make the most of their time,” Colleen added.
