A historic Cumbrian hotel is set to undergo a £5.5m refurbishment having been “neglected from any major investment for many years”.
The 91-bedroomed Gilsland Hall is set in 140 acres of gardens and woodland will see an new the addition of a spa, swimming pool and self catering holiday cottages following a £5.5m from Northern Powerhouse Developments (NPD).
The work is set to begin this winter with the hotel remaining open to guests.
Dax Bradley, construction director at NPD said: “Gilsland hall having been neglected from any major investment for many years under the previous owners, is now having major investment programmed over the next three years, due to the size of this hotel we intend to keep the hotel open and operational throughout this programme of works.”
Bradley added that NPD’s intention is to make Gilsland Hall Hotel a destination hotel for weddings, group conferences and events, family holidays and short Spa breaks.
He added: “With this in mind we will be adding additional facilities such as a modern spa, the possibility of some outdoor activities with the Hotel set in over 140 acres ideal for the more active or possibly just to keep the younger ones busy while the parents relax, also having fishing rights on the river Irthing this hotel will have it all.
“The hotel has several cottages that will be used for those wishing to have self catering facilities for groups or families, also we have a large spa villa located on the long driveway leading up to the hotel which we intend to renovate for large parties or groups capable of housing three or four large families or up to 25 people as a possible wedding pre-party.”
