Somerset’s Gascony Hotel sold for £720,000

The new owners will use the property to provide accommodation to homeless individuals in the surrounding area

Somerset’s Gascony Hotel has been sold to YMCA Dulverton Group, a community charity, off a guide price of £720,000 on a freehold basis.

A family run hotel located in Minehead for 23 years, the property will now provide accommodation and support for children, young people and families.

Featuring 20 bedrooms, the Victorian style establishment is a three minute walk from the seafront and four-minutes from the West Somerset Railway heritage line.

Derek and Angela Tomlinson, the previous owners at the hotel, said: “While being sad at leaving the hotel after all these years we are delighted that the building will be repurposed for such a worthwhile cause we wish YMCA Dulverton Group every success in their venture.”

A charity that works across Somerset and Devon, YMCA will use the newest addition to its portfolio to provide accommodation to young homeless individuals and families in the surrounding area.

Stephen Champion, director at Christie and Co’s hospitality team, who brokered the sale, said: “We are delighted to have brokered this transaction which will enable our clients Derek and Angela to retire from the business.

“Although it is always disappointing to see a hotel cease trading, we are delighted to see that the building will be going to good use by providing much need[ed] accommodation for vulnerable young people and families within [the] area.”
