Wildhive, a new boutique hospitality brand, has opened the doors to its first site today (1 September), the Derbyshire-based Callow Hall.
The hotel is surrounded by woodland and 35 acres of wild open space, and is described as the “perfect bolthole” from which to explore the Peak District and “reconnect with nature”.
The main house was built in the 1850s and features 15 individually designed bedrooms, which have been transformed by British designer Isabella Worsley. According to Wildhive, her “clever” use of fabrics, textures and rich colours, along with modern art from Jonathan Schofield and Alba Hodsoll, bring a “contemporary edge to the historical building”.
The interiors feature bespoke pieces such as mural wallpaper by artist Melissa White in the Private Dining space, which depicts scenes from the hotel grounds and the surrounding Peak District.
Guests will also be able to stay in the woodland in one of Callow Hall’s 11 one-bedroom Woodland Hives, which “offer a truly original experience immersed in nature” and have also been styled by Worsley. Each hive features an en-suite bathroom, chef’s cupboard and outdoor seating.
Two treehouses will also be launched at the site in January 2022, and will feature kitchens and a wraparound deck, complete with an outdoor bath. Communal firepits and pop up woodland bars will also feature on the grounds.
Executive chef David Bukowicki will oversee the food and drinks offering. He will use seasonal ingredients from local suppliers across Britain, and from Callow’s own kitchen garden. Menus will change monthly in line with what produce is available. Dishes include smoked chicken and Pig Paddock chorizo croquettes, Dovedale cheese twice baked souffle, sea trout ceviche and local Derbyshire steaks.
Meanwhile, the contemporary glass Garden Room provides an open space with “panoramic views” over the landscape, while guests can enjoy a drink at the bar, crafted by head bartender Munro.
In addition, the Coach House Wellness Centre offers an undercover gym area in the landscaped courtyard with a sauna, rowing machines and interactive bikes. There is also an interactive studio where guests will have access to over 100 classes from Yoga to Pilates to HIIT workouts.
An interactive concierge, Bea, enables guests to order food and drink, book spa treatments and activities or ask any question about the hotel or the area, via any social media channel.
