Signet Collection to launch The Retreat Elcot Park

In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

The Signet Collection has announced that its second hotel, The Retreat Elcot Park, will debut from Spring 2022.

The Grade II-listed 18th Century building is located between Hungerford and Newbury, and features 55 individually styled bedrooms with “magnificent” grounds.

Dating back to 1772, the site features views of the Wessex Downs, and is in close proximity to the Downton Abbey Highclere Castle, the market town of Hungerford, Newbury racecourse and Blenheim Palace. It also has close transport links to the M4, M3 and A34, as well as numerous train stations, and is 45 minutes by train from London.

The Retreat will open with two restaurants, an all-day dining Brasserie and a pan-Asian restaurant, as well as a whisky tasting room, honesty pantries on each floor.

There will also be several meeting rooms for private events and multiple private dining spaces. Ronnie Kimbugwe, whose background includes time with the Gordon Ramsay group at Claridge’s Hotel and a decade with the Bel and Dragon Country Inns, will lead the culinary operations.

The 16 acre grounds feature a walled working garden, tennis courts, an outdoor infinity pool, with designer cabanas and Whispering Angel pool bar, as well as croquet lawns and a children’s zone.

This boutique hotel will also feature a Health Club that includes hydrotherapy pools, treatment rooms, a steam and sauna, large gym, spin studio and a wellness area.

In addition, ‘The Courtyard’ will act as a mixed-use retail space consisting of a bakery, coffee house, hair salon and a wine store.

Hector Ross, managing partner, said: “We are delighted to announce the second hotel from The Signet Collection coming next Spring. As with The Mitre Hampton Court, we look forward to unveiling a property which will be enjoyed in the context of its historical significance, both preserving and restoring authenticity coupled with offering a vast array of activities on site to keep our guests entertained.

“With a focus on creating memorable experiences, informality of design, exquisite food and service, we believe The Retreat will be a much-loved addition to the area, involving both the local community and travellers from afar.”

The Signet Collection launched in September 2020 with the debut of its first hotel in the portfolio, The Mitre Hampton Court.
