Hotel Brooklyn recognised at Disability Smart Awards

The Disability Smart Built Environment Award recognises organisations that have created 'beautiful, accessible and inclusive' physical environments for everyone, including disabled people

Hotel Brooklyn has been recognised at this year’s Disability Smart Awards 2021, achieving the ‘Highly Commended’ status in the built environment category. 

The Disability Smart Built Environment Award recognises organisations that have created “beautiful, accessible and inclusive” physical environments for everyone, including disabled people. 

The award celebrates “truly inclusive” design that has “gone the extra mile to break down barriers experienced by disabled people”.

The judging panel awarded Hotel Brooklyn ‘Highly Commended’ status in light of its approach towards the design of the Manchester hotel. 

In their feedback, the judging panel said: “Working with accessible design specialists, Hotel Brooklyn has prioritised creating fully accessible guestrooms and has looked to build accessibility into every aspect of the hotel experience, creating 18 fully accessible rooms. 

“They have achieved all of this without compromising on design. The adaptability features retain a stylish modern aesthetic.”

The general manager of Hotel Brooklyn, Paul Bayliss MBE, said: ”We were of course absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for this award, but then to gain this further recognition and commendation is such an achievement for us at the Hotel. It has to be all about spreading the message that everyone is welcome and everyone can have a great time with us with little or no constraints to how they can relax in our property. 

“Really well done to The University of Warwick as Winners and for the other finalists, who I’m sure all feel just like us that the more we focus on inclusivity and helping people with disabilities, the better all environments of work and leisure become.”

The Disability Smart Awards are awarded annually by Business Disability Forum. The awards celebrate and promote disability inclusive practice across areas including leadership, recruitment, workplace experience, customer service, and built environment.
