Firmdale Hotels has announced the appointment of Mark Surguy as the new general manager of Haymarket Hotel, 1 Suffolk Place. He reportedly brings over 16 years of hospitality experience.
As general manager at Haymarket Hotel, Surguy will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hotel including Brumus, the hotel’s restaurant and bar, as well as the exclusive townhouse.
Surguy joins the Firmdale Hotels team following a successful six years at The Stafford where he is said to have progressed from executive assistant manager to hotel manager during his time there, as well as overseeing the “highly successful” launch of the Game Bird Restaurant and the multi-million pound renovation of the hotel suites.
He began his career at The Goring Hotel on a management training scheme before moving to South Lodge Hotel and Spa as front of house manager, progressing to operations manager where he received an Acorn Award for top 30 under 30 in hospitality.
Haymarket Hotel is a landmark building designed by John Nash, the same architect who developed most of Regency London, including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, and the adjoining Haymarket Theatre.
The hotel comprises 53 individually designed bedrooms and suites, an exclusive 2-5 bedroom townhouse, conservatory, library and Brumus bar and restaurant, which is situated on the hotel’s ground floor adjacent to the lobby, its main street entrance on Haymarket.
In addition, there are also private event spaces including The Shooting Gallery, a space on the ground floor which can seat 70 for dinner. There is a gym and treatment room, as well as a spectacular 55ft-long subterranean pool with a bar, lounge and music, and lighting system.
Surguy said: “I’ve long been an admirer of all of the Firmdale Hotel, to take the helm at the Haymarket Hotel is an honour and an opportunity that I am very much looking forward to.”
